LAW 67
ANIMAL PROTECTION ACT

(ABBREVIATED)

Section 2: Any person who:

(a) Overloads, overworks, beats, kicks, abuses, tortures, or cruelly harms any animal; or

(b) confines, ties, chains any animal unnecessarily or under conditions in a manner or position that causes unnecessary suffering, or

(C) deprives an animal of food or water or provides too little of it; or

(d) administers any poison or poisonous substance to any animal or causes injury to the latter, or

(e) keeps an animal in dirty or parasitic condition; or

(m) deliberately or without reasonable cause abandons an animal; or

(r) tears away or mutilates parts from any living animal; or

(s) performs any painful operation on any animal in a nonprofessional way; or

(t) restricts the freedom of movement of an animal (shall be in violation of the Penal Code)



Section 4

(1) If a police officer is or me opinion at any time that a given animal is very sick, severely injured, or in physical condition warranting euthanasia, he or she shall: call a veterinarian if the owner is absent or refuses to give authorization to put the animal to sleep. The veterinarian shall examine the animal and certify that it would suffer if it remained alive. After providing such certification, the veterinarian shall put the animal to sleep. Any violation of this law shall constitute a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punishable by a penalty not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment for six (6) months, or both penalties, at the discretion of the Court.

If you observe someone mistreating an animal, give him a copy of Law 67. If he does not respond, notify the police.
