Many thanks to Dr. Gwen Davis, The Pet Vet in Isabela, for the following information: Regular physical examinations and vaccinations are a key to helping your dog live a healthier, happier life. Please have your pets inmunized, including booster vaccinations, to protect them from the following infectious diseases:
RABIES: A fatal infection that affects all mammals, including humans. It is spread through the saliva, thus the bite of an infected animal can cause rabies. The disease affects the central nervous system, causing symptoms of madness, then death. Rabies vaccinations are required by law.
HEPATITIS: A contagious disease of dogs with signs of fever, depression, and congested mucous membranes. Puppies will lose their appetite and are very thirsty. Puppies with slight cuts may bleed for prolonged periods. Later these puppies may develop an opacity to the eye known as "Blue Eye".
DISTEMPER: A highly contagious disease of dogs characterized by fever and a thick pasty discharge from the eyes and nose. Later the dog may develop nervous sytem symptoms such as a twitching muscle spasm and convulsions. Distemper is universal and most puppies are exposed to the virus in the air.
LEPTOSPIROSIS: A rapidly spreading disease of both animal and man. It is transmitted through contact with urine and may cause a yellow tinge to the skin, blood in the urine, abortions, and death.
PARVOVIRUS: This disease is the leading cause of death in puppies. It is a highly contagious disease. Infected puppies show a lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. The resultant dehydration often results in death.CORONA VIRUS: This disease resemples parvovirus, and mainly affects young puppies. The vomiting and diarrhea are severe and may resut in death.
PARA INFLUENZA: A respiratory disease causing symptoms similar to pneumonia. The mains signs are: deppression, fever, cough, mucous discharge from the nose, and congestion of the lungs. This disease can also affect man and other domestic animals.
